Hello,

I have a "49 Pony with a six volt negative ground system. It has always started and ran like a charm up to now.
The last time I went to run it when I pushed the start button all I heard was a electrical sizzle type sound. Then there was nothing, not even headlights.
I tested the key switch and the push button and they seem fine so I"m guessing it"s the light/generator switch. Any thoughts?

If anyone could help me with a electrical diagram for a Pony and perhaps some advice on where I could find a light switch I would much appreciate it.

Thank You
Randy

did you check wire and battery cable connections at the solenoid and starter.Check if cable from battery to solenoid has current there,if ok With starter button pushed in check for current at the small wire on solenoid if ok there check cable to starter for current. Is the battery charged ? Hope this helps you find your problem. Don Snyder

Sounds like something may have earthed and taken out the fuse, check that and have a look at the wiring between the starter button and the solenoid, especially where it runs against metal.

Hey Chas,

I checked the switch fuse, it's good. The wiring down to the solenoid etc is wrapped and isolated from any ground. Any other thoughts?

Thanks
Randy

Like Don suggests, its down to a step by step tracking it down. If you are using a meter of some sort, disconnect battery and solenoid and check if any signs of continuity battery cable to earth when you press starter. If so then there's a short someplace. If not, reconnect solenoid and see if you get ohms now when you press starter. If not then find where on the line you can read ohms. See if you can track continuity battery cable end to B terminal on the regulator, then common terminal on the light switch. Just step by step til you find something ..... .. then hit it!Chas

Thank you Chas and Don, I will take your advice and just keep looking. Gives me a good excuse to have a beer or two in the garage!
