Can anyone tell me anything about this? I have an old combine (also heard it called a harvester) with "Massey Harris" painted across the sides. My grandparents used to grow cotton on this farm, so I think they used it. It's been parked in the same spot as long as I can remember (I'm 38) and I've never seen it run. It has a driver's seat/controls, so it was independently driven, not pulled behind a tractor.

What is it? Anyone know a model number or anything at all? Or maybe know where on the machine I can look for that information? Or maybe do you know of any websites where I can find more info on it? If anyone recognizes it, would you happen to know what it's worth, if anything more than scrap price? (I hope! I'd hate to see it scrapped.) I've been looking for information all over the internet, mainly trying to find a picture of it so I could ID it myself, and my search is turning up empty.

Below is a link to an individual photo and a link to more photos. At the link is also an Allis Chalmers combine/harvester ~ a pull-behind one. If anyone happens to know anything about that one, even just a website where I can find more info, I'd appreciate that, too.

Thanks in advance! :)

Its a 80 Or 90 Massey Combine in reply to Linda in Texas, 03-06-2008 17:16:12
Its a 1953-55 model 80 or 90 Massey combine as the steering column is enclosed and the steering wheel is at an angle. Also the reel drive is belt and is on the left side.

The 26's and 27's have the open steering column with the steering wheeel flat. Also their reel drive is chain and is on the right hand side.

The 60's thru 90's had a hydraulic platform lift where the 21's-26's-27's had the electric lift.

There should be a serial # plate on the combine.

The AC is a 66 as it has the flaired out pickup platform, the 60 is straight and it has the hood on the end of the straw rack that is a 66 type, could be either a straw spreader or chopper, can't se good enough to know, it has the earlier stylle tank with the folding auger fastened to the front, later ones had a removeable folding auger out the side of the tank the same as the 72 that is the newest version with an auger platform instead of a canvase platforn as on the 60-66 versions. The 66 is a 5 foot. 66 a 5 1/2 foot and 72 a 6 foot. best machine ever for clover seed.

this combine is a model #26, built in the fortys. its not an 80, or 90, they are from early fiftys.like the guy said the model is under massey harris, should be able to read it.they had a6 volt electric winch set up for the table lift. there was no hyd. on them.i had one like this.the 80 and 90 are totaly newer looking, they even have the gas tank on the right side not left side as this one.

The other poster pretty much has nailed down the Masey ID. On the RH side, the side against the shrubbery, there will be a small aluminum nameplate, giving the model and serial numbers.

The Allis is an "All-crop Combine", model "60", I think.

If you enter that information into GOOGLE, you will gets a lot of "hits" of links to websites of folks who collect them. for more information.

Apparently my link to the individual picture wasn't the right one. Sorry about that. The last four pictures at the link above is the machine I'm talking about.

Thanks again. :)

You may get more answers over on the combine forum. Not saying you can't get good answers here too.

Linda, The Massey combine is either 90 or a90 Special I think. I cant make out the numbers under the words MASSEY HARRIS on the sides and back. Just walk up to it and read the numbers and you will have the model. they were built in the early to mid fifties. They were very popular here in Saskatchewan Canada. I harvested many acres with one. They were powered by a Chrysler industrial engine and had good capasidy. hope this is of some help.----- ----Harold
