MF 135 Gas Fuel line setup

Hi everyone, I have a question for those of you who have a Gas Deluxe 135 (Z145 Engine) In the parts book, there is a tube that comes down out of the fuel tank and loops into the sediment bowl and then the line goes from the sediment bowl to the carb.

On my tractor, someone over time modified the tractor (and this is been this way since I was a little kid) the tank is directly connected to the sediment bowl and to the fuel line and someone plumbed in a fuel filter and then it proceeds to the carburator.

Does anyone still have the original set up or did the people who owned it before my dad got it in the early 80s modify it?

I"m asking because I have a hunch why my tractor isn"t working and I want to prove disprove my theory.

Except for the in-line filter, your 135 is plumbed like mine. The sediment bowl and valve is screwed directly to the tank. Then a line runs over to the carburetor.

Its likely that in-line filter is your problem. The standard automotive filter is set up for a pressure system, and restricts a gravity flow system excessively. Replace it with a piece of hose and I think you will find your fuel problems gone.

My MF-135 parts book shows the separate mount and loop between the sediment bowl and the tank was used for SN 9A55244 and up (footnote G). That SN was issued in 1968. My tractor is a bit earlier SN.

Gerald I think I might do that - I know the gas tank has/had varnish and rust in the tank. I hadn"t gotten a chance to have everything cleaned and sealed before it stopped working two years ago.

I guess the hypothesis I want to test is whether or not is if there is a constriction in the fuel line or the carburator. That filter was replaced, and last year when I was trying to get it to fire I could have sworn I had fuel at the carb, but I can"t remember if I had to bet money on it.

When I go home for a few days over spring break I want to work on it alittle if the weather and gas prices cooperate.

There may be an in-line filter for gravity feed. If so it should work. The in-line filter for a system with a fuel pump restricts flow too much.

Dirt from a dirty tank will plug things up quickly.

I've seen a fuel line so plugged with varnish the engine would only idle. Same thing from varnish in the screen that's a part of the carburetor inlet adapter.
