Boy did I mess up. Went to rebuild the steering cylinders on a MF 255, pressed the balljoint ends out only to find they are not a replaceable part. Now I need two new cylinders and cannot find anyone that sells these. Does anyone know where I can find them or know of any other fixes?

D"oh! Well, hate to say it, but... Better go visit your MF dealer to get your parts so you can get "er fixed. You can probably only buy the cylinder rod and the cylinder housing with the ball-joint ends already welded on them. (Or the complete cylinder.) Yikes! That"ll learn ya! I know on the MF 250 tractor that I had, I had to replace the entire cylinder rod with joint on the end, as the ball joint end was not replaceable any other way. Yes, it was somewhat expensive, but "twas nowhere near as bad as replacing the entire cylinder. Fortunately, my cylinders only had ball joint ends on the rod end of the cylinders, and pin on design on the body of the cylinders. Replacing the "guts" and the rod was actually pretty easy. Additionally, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the joints and installed grease fittings. We got around 4,000 trouble-free hours out of the original non-greasable joints, so I expect many more with the new "modded" ends now being able to be greased! Also, you can always go to your auto parts store and buy some ball joints that you can weld on to the existing rod/cylinder. It may be a challenge to get ones with the correct or close enough joint taper and length. Good luck, and god bless... Andy

Thanks for the info Mr. Turbo Diesel, I checked with the MF dealer several days ago, they only wanted $1200 a piece! I looked some more on the net and found some aftermarket cyliders in Mexico, MO at Walts Tractor parts for $425. I also looked into replace the seals and fabricating the ball joints, but the seal rebuild kit is almost impossible to find. Learned a very good lesson! Thanks again for the help.

Most original MF PS cylinders are NOT rebuildable. However most aftermarket ones are! and they are much less expensive than OEM as you have already found out.
