Not sure of the model but going to look at a MF 3pt mounted hay rake. Are they good machines? Just plan on using it around the yard. What are the pros and cons of them. What are they worth? Thanks

Well, the guy had said it was an MF rake but it looks to be a Ferguson, grey in color. Not the best of shape as some of the holes of the bars are wore where the bearings are as they were allowed to come loose. The cast iron wheel where the bars connect has been welded twice ( on each end ). It has been sitting in a barn for a few years. Kind of wanted a good one to use around the yard.

I guess this is a mute point, but does this rake require a ground speed PTO.

Your in good shape if you have a Fergy, do not remember other brands of small tractors having this option.

Wonder if Ferguson designed the gearing for ground speed PTO just for their hay rakes or did they have other tools that used that option?

Would have been a lot of extra gearing just to rake hay.

Fred, No Ferg or MF 3 pt rake need anything special to rake hay. Tho the 20 model had a pto
reduction kit as an accessory, I never saw one
with that option installed. What we are talking
about is the special benefit of the ground speed
PTO avail on MF tractors. You can slow the eng.
RPM's and shift to a higher gear and rake hay
more economically. The PTO turns proportionate
to the wheel speed and not engine RPM. Works good
on a rake since not much HP required. Hook up to
any tractor you want and go rake hay with a real
good rake. Chuck

I have a 7-ft Ferguson 3-pt rake model DEO-20, I'm not 100% sure but it may be similar to the MF if it is an older one. They work real good for hay if you have ground-drive PTO option on tractor. Easy to use. I like that it can be raised quickly when needed (e.g., groundhog mounds or crossing rocky fields/creeks). Downside is that it can not be towed with a truck like a pull-behind rake. Price? good cond. $500-1,000 around here.
