MF 240 Differential Lock - Help!

Any suggestions:

MF 240 diff lock pedal will not engage the lock, pedal won't move (worked last fall) even almost standing on it, even with driving slowly ahead and working the steering wheel to line the axles up it won't go down / engage.
The lock is definitely not engaged/ even trying the engage

The pedal is not slipping on the shaft, I've loosened and tightened the bolt to adjust pedal height, as per owners manual. I can see the splined shaft going into the case and the pedal is trying to rotate the shaft, and I can wiggle the shaft slightly in and out.
Anyone have any ideas or exploded parts diagrams?

Ok.

Soaked with WD-40

1) Pedal not slipping on shaft

2) no debris behind pedal (moves freely when clamp bolt loose)

3) I can move the shaft that goes into the rear end, rotate it slightly, it will also pull in and out of the housing as far as the opening allows.

4) I can STAND on the pedal while driving tractor (steering left to right or in straight line) and no go.

What goes internally???? Something SOLID is holding it back.

No noise when operating tractor, everything else works fine.
I bought an I & T shop book, and have the exploded diagram, I'm relatively ok doing mechanically things, any suprises to be aware of if tearing into this?

Thanks, will try some more WD40, The actual splined shaft does move left to right (in/out from side of rear end) but won't rotate other than just slightly. It's SOLID.
There was a little junk behind the pedal, but when I loosened the bolt clamp the pedal moved very freely and the return spring worked good, so I feel at this point it's inside....really hope the soak and hammer method works....don't really want to have to open her up....

We had a similar problem with a Massey 231. Dirt had packed in behind the pedal attachment at the shaft. We blew it out with air and lubricated it with WD40. Once a year I clean it out now and we have had no further problems.

Because there isn't a greasing point in this area, it is a common problem if the diff lock hasn't been used for a while. You will need to spray a penetrating oil, like INOX, WD40 or your equivalent in the States, around the area, and let it soak for a day or so. Then gently tap the pedal with a hammer to get the first initial movement going. When this occurs, work the pedal up and down in small amounts until it gets more free movement. Don't rush this process, but take it GENTLY. Use plenty of penetrating oil while carrying out this process. You may need to jack up the rear wheel, to line up the teeth of the diff-lock when your travel in the pedal reaches this point. If this procedure fails to get it free, you will have to remove the axle housing, disassemble the difflock mechanism, and remove the shaft with a brass drift and hammer. Hope this makes some sense, regards, Evan.
