I just bought a MF 165 diesel. Bought it for 2500 in an auction. Don't know much about history, not sure about the year, but everything works on it, and it started good considering it was 10 degrees outside. I would like to know some specs on it, hp, torque, what is a good size bush hog for it. If it's around 50hp, would a 10 ft be the way to go. I've got some pretty good size hills, I don't want it driving me! Thanks for you time, Chris, nice site too!!

Chris,
I bought a MF 165 Diesel about 3 years ago. It has been a great tractor. Starts good even in very cold weather. The Perkins Diesel is rated at 52 HP. I pull a 5 foot bush hog through tall grass with it. I owned the bush hog before I had the tractor. A 6 or 7 foot cut would be better matched to the tractor. Get a bush hog that is at least as wide as your rear wheels are set.

Great tractor! I have a 1973 row crop diesel 165 with a Westendorf WL-21 loader. Couldn't ask for a better or more reliable tractor. Easy to work on and find parts for.

Specs:

Years mfg'd: 1965-1974 (I think)
PTO HP: Gas-47, Diesel-52.5
Transmission: 6-speed, 6 w/Multipower, or 8-speed
PTO: Live or independent
Category I 3-point hitch
Swinging drawbar

Advise that you obtain:

1) Operators' manual
2) MF service manual
3) MF parts manual
4) I&T service manual (135,150,165)
5) MF cap to wear when you're operating your tractor.

Good Luck.
