135 Question

I have been looking at a 135 diesel for some time now. I know the owner well, and have used the tractor myself occasionally for the last 15 years. The tires are like new, all the gauges work, engine has no blow by and isn't an oil burner. He actually had the engine gone through at about 2900 hrs. simply because he didn't like it using a little oil once in a awhile. paint is original and really good, sheetmetal doesn't have so much as a little ding in it, and the brakes will lock the tires with little effort. Clutch is stiff but works good, and he just had the power steering gone through by a Massey dealer and it works perfect. Two things concern me a little though. While driving it on the road the other day, I noticed that when above the 540 mark on the tach, the engine surged a little and puffed a little black smoke. It doesn't always do that though. The other thing is that the lift does not lower as fast as it used to, but it picks up smooth and seems as strong as ever. It does have the complete Massey remote hydraulics, they have been removed and I would probably sell them to get a little of my investment back. Does 5000 sound about right for this tractor? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you both for the input, I do appreciate it. I was thinking 5k wasn"t too bad, glad to hear I wasn"t the only one with that opinion. I"ve wanted that tractor for years, and it will finally be in my barn this weekend.

what Dean was referring to is the Response control - you can adjust Fast or Slow to drop linkage. Look on right side for lever near tranny dipstick. Seems like a decent price if in good condition as you say. New tires alone are worth about $1,200. These are great small tractors. I have one and a MF 165D. If you buy it follow MF owners manual to the tee, except I use 15w40 oil for engine.

Brian:

The MF-135 is a great small tractor and the Perkins diesel version is the most desireable.

In my part of the midwest a good 135 diesel will bring $5000.

There is a lift drop adjustment on the right side inspection cover near the dipstick.

Dean
