Hey guys,

I'm totally new to the Massey board. I usually hang out at the Case board.

A buddy of mine has a M-H 22(?) that he's willing to part with. He said it needs a lot of work to restore, or even make usable, but the price is pretty right. The tracotr is supposed to be a 1943 model, with the narrow front. He also said it's got a category 2 3-point hitch, but the more I think about it, I'm wondering if it might be an aftermarket hitch or a category 1 hitch.

Now the questions.....How big is the 22? Horsepower? Did they come with a factory 3-point? Where can I find parts? And, what are they worth somewhat restored, in case my wife doesn't like it? She's been after me for a while to get a smaller farm tractor for work in the barn, and the Case SC is too big (according to her, that is).

Thanks in advance.
Brent

I quote from Massey Tractor Data Book.
The 22 replaced the 20 in the tractor lineup in 1948. the 22 included a larger 140 cu. in. engine and hydralics as standard equipment. The 22 was also the first MH to offer an optional 3 point hitch.
Hope this helps Stan

The model 22 was available with a three point hitch. The 22 was not available in 1943. Massey did however make the model 81 at this time. An 81 is the same chassis as a 22 except the engine is a 124 cubic inch instead of the 140 which came in the 22. The grille on a 81 looks like a 101 senior.

Brent,

One book of mine shows sn. from 1948 through 1952 but another book says they were sold through 1953. These may have been left overs. The 22 was made as both a row crop and a standard version with Neb. test #403 showing nearly 27 belt horse power and a bare tractor weight of 2928. I beleive the standard version is more scarce than the row crop version. It uses a Continental Red Seal engine of 3 3/16 X 4 3/8 bore and stroke and rated at 1500 RPM on the drawbar and 1800 RPM on the belt.

I don't find any mention of a three point on this tractor from the factory.

Hope this helps

Roger
