What year did the 165 start having wet brakes, and also how can I tell if mine has dry or wet brakes?I have asked a few people about it and about half says mine are wet and the other half say dry.

The last 165 MF was built in 1975, S/N 9A207681. From the Massey Ferguson's I have been around, I have noticed that serial number's around 9A260000 (late '70's) have wet disc brakes. There will be markings, 2 or 3 notches, on each carrier housing for the differential if the brakes are wet brakes. These markings will be on the back of the differential housing, on the carrier housing left and right, between the PTO shaft and the top link. The 165MF can be converted to wet brakes. If work was done correctly, new carrier housing should have been installed and the differential oil should travel to the plantery for each side. There will be no seals in the carrier housing if the 165 has been converted.
