It was 0 deg. a couple of days ago. After a couple of minutes my power steering got weak and just quit. I opened the fill plug and the resivoir was under pressure and the oil poured out. It was a thick pink foam. I let it sit all night and in the morning the oil went back to normal. I replaced the lost oil with about a cup of new MF permatran. Every thing worked like it should. I had heated the pump with a hair dryed. I was surprised how thick permatran is at 0 deg.. I had trouble just getting it to flow through a funnel. I think it is too thick to run through the power steering system and just cavitates and foams at this low temperature. Has anyone had this happen? Anyone put a synthetic in the power steering? System is full of new permatran after are build last summer. No water in system as tractor has been inside.

I had this situation few times in many years
the releif valve may stick open sometimes due to cold temperature. I observed that when temperature is very cold and come suddendly mild some moisture develops and cause condensation inside the tractor components.
