I AM NOT paying what the MF dealer or my local dsl. injection service wants for glow plugs!($35+ each) I am going to manufacture adapters to install less expensive readily available plugs, eg; VW dsl. I have a Rabbit dsl. and the plugs are $7.95 ea. and last for years. Also these plugs use the engine block as ground and a wire to each plug for positive, no elaborate insulators. I plan to use a bolt with same thread as original plugs, drill and tap center for the smaller VW plugs and put the same taper on the sealing end. Has anyone else done this with any success ?

Chris,
I have made adapters for my TO35 Standard Diesel. I used early GM diesel glow plugs which are cheap. I made the adapters from a 5/8" bolt and turned the correct threads on it in a lathe. I drilled the center and machined a tapered seat at the bottom and then tapped the correct threads for the early model GM glow plugs. I don't know about the VW glow plugs but the GM plugs are long enough to do the job. I put the tip of the glow plug about 1/4" into the combustion chamber which is deeper than the originals the engine starts well down to 30 degrees. This seems to work good for me. Good luck, Bob

Hey Bob in CA. Thanks for the well wishes. Glad to hear someone has had success. I feel better about the project now. I was going on what what I am familiar with on the VW plugs, but I'll compair prices. Also thanks for the harness info Bill.

Pricing seems strange. My wiring harness from VR to generator was raged up a little bit and since it was off thought it might be replaced. Two wires about four feet in length with two connectors crimped and soldered on each end.

The price at the Massey dealer was $36.72. Now, I would have paid eight or nine dollars or three times what one could have been made for. I will not and didn't pay 10 times the cost of making a new harness up.

Certainly is causing me to re-think the prospect of a newer Massey.

Something is wrong with this picture.

I don't think this price is high for an original product. The demand for parts this old is declining and someone has to pay for the "authorized" dealers to stock "useless junk".
Just like if you have an "authorized" technician look at your old TV or your vintage appliances.
If you want cheap parts, join the clubs and chip in your own used parts for others to swap or buy.
This has been to great use here in Denmark. And yes, parts are even more expensive here!
