I have a G1355 and Tach wasn't working when I got it. I have had the alternator re-worked and it does have the little terminal on the back for the tach to hook up but still doesn't work. I got with Welters in Missouri and they searched and found me another NOS tach but when it came in they said it looked like the tach/speedometer for a White 2-110 but apparently it was supposed to be adaptable to the 1355. There is a little switch on the back that has 3 different settings( apparently electrical) I have tried to hook this thing up and Welters had tried to help me but it is something of a mystery to them too. There is apparently some magnetic doohicky that is supposed to be placed on the alternator to make it work. I'd appreciate any insight re this problem. What about trying to take the old Tachourmeter to an electronic repair shop and just get it fixed????? At this point, it seems like that might be the simpler route. Thanks for the comments.

I have repowered some Olivers with Cummins engines and when you do this you have to change from a cable driven tach to a set up very much like you are talking about. With an electric tach you can take the RPMs of the engine off the flywheel with a sensor or you can take the RPMs off the altinatior. If you have an altinator that has three prongs on the top then it is set up for a Tach already, most are. If it is not set up an altinator repair shop can easily put it in for you. I buy my Tachs from Murphy, the same people that make the Murphy switchs that cut tractors off if the temp gets too high or the oil pressure gets too low. If you are not concerned with keeping the tractor origional they are real nice units with a back lit face and they really work well. It is pretty simple to hook up, power to the tach from the switch, a ground and one wire to the altinatior to read the rpms, and then you have some adjustment to set the rpms correctly on the tractor. Your set up should be very simular.

Good luck, if you need more help let me know.

Do a search under Tachometer. There should be
shops that do repairs listed. If you can't find
any send me a note and I'll give you some shop
names and numbers.
