Is it hard to find parts for these? We have one that was damaged in a tornado and it needs heads, hood, grille, radiator, and a steering wheel. Is it going to be too difficult to find parts or should I start working on it?
Thanks,
Trever

Well I found out what that box is with the horse decal on it. It apparently is a Eaton Char-Lynn Hydraulic System Resevoir. So the pump is MM and the resevoir for some reason is Char-Lynn. The controls for the hydraulic system are mounted up by the fender. So everything is complete on it. It doesn't need a cylinder like the Tele-Flo because it's driven by the water pump.

It's looking like this tractor is going to need a lot of work. Everyday I want to tell my grandpa that i'm gonna by it from him, but then I chicken out. What's wrong with me?

If it is a gasolene uts 4209 or 4210's are the heads you want. I'm not sure what they convert to in old part numbering system,(GE xxx)

All those parts can be found. A good hood and grille will be hardest. Just not cheap. Occasionally they come up on ebay. What I would do is go to www. minneapolis-moline.com and post an ad under 'wanted'.

P.S. I gotta ask: Did the heads blow away? I can understand all the other parts being damaged by a tornado. Hope your family and house is O.K.

Thanks. No, the heads didn't blow away. My grandpa just sold them this past month to a person from our area. I believe my grandpa has fenders and heads, but probably not the right heads. Do they have to be a certain head?

Also its got a hydraulic system on it. How do I know if this one is factory? And should I keep it on?

Also the gauges and wiring are ripped out. Is this the same "dash" or whatever that is on the R's, Z's, and G's?

Thanks,
Trever

I got some quotes for some heads but they're way too high. I've got a cracked head that is the right head. Could I get that welded up?

Trever,

The original-type hydraulic system has a cast-iron reservoir under the fuel tank, just behind the rear 'jug' in the engine. It replaces the front fuel tank support. It has steel hydraulic tubing that runs to the rear of the tractor. The hydraulic pump is driven from the rear of the water pump shaft, where the magneto would normally mount. The pump should have a 3-bolt flange bolted to the rear of it, with the supply and pressure lines fastened to the flange. The system has to use a MM cylinder with integral check valves, or else a cross-port check valve has to be mounted in the circuit between the control valve and an ordinary hydraulic cylinder, because the control valve opens all lines to the tank in the neutral position.

Heads: Mine ('49 UTS) has GE30E casting numbers. There is also a '10A' part number that is a direct replacement, but don't know what it is. You can probably look it up on Jeremy Fiorelli's web page. (Do a search for it. The URL to it is huge.)

Well I found out what that box is with the horse decal on it. It apparently is a Eaton Char-Lynn Hydraulic Steering System. The decal says Char-Lynn on it and I think it's connected to the steering. The controls for the hydraulic system are mounted up by the fender.

Thanks Again!!

I haven't looked to close. All I remember is that there is a bunch of hoses, fittings, and a box located near the fender that has a decal of a horse on it for some reason. I was going to look some more tonight but after I got done unloading corn and moving corn between bins, it was too dark to look. Was the hydraulic system standard or an option? How could you tell if it was original or an aftermarket or universal hydraulic system? Also, is it something that should stay on there or be removed and are the parts for it universal or is it hard to find parts?

I wish I knew what heads were on there. Is their a high and a low compression head for gasoline for that engine? So what your saying is the heads aren't interchangeable, correct?

Thanks Kelvin!

Trever, If you can find heads that will bolt on they will work, HOWEVER there is a common feeling that if you work the tractor hard and use a higher compression head there is a very real danger of cracking. Unless your UTS is an LP the stock hydraulic tank will be located under the gas tank. Should you remove what you have? Only you can answer that. Decide what you intend to do with the tractor then fix it accordingly. If you are just going to fix it up and parade you may want to to take it off to eliminate another possible oil leak on a nice paint job. If you want to use it to pull wagons, a mower, or run an auger you might want to leave it on even if it not a factory orginal. Whatever you do enjoy your MM.

Joe
