I talked with a farmer the other day and he said that once you have a tractor with a loader, you will wonder how you ever got along without. Does anyone know how a 4 star would handle a loader? Are there any good aftermarket brands of loaders?

A loader is nearly indespensible around the farmstead, and everybody should have one tractor with loader. But they're a pain in the butt when doing field work- in your line of sight, banging around whenever you hit a bump, etc. You end up raising the bucket high up to be out of the way, and this gets dangerous on hilly ground because of higher center of gravity. That being said, your 4 Star would work fine with a loader- provided your power steering is in good shape. Freeman, Bushhog, Farmhand, Superior, Du-all, Westendorf, etc. are all good brands. You'll never find mounts to fit the tractor, so figure on fabricating your own.

Do you think a narrow front would handle a loader or should I find a wide front and switch over?

If you are looking for a wide front for a 4 star, we have one sitting here that came off of a 4 star.
