There was a whole thread on electronic ignition a while back. You might want to look at it. Personally, I wonder why you would want to do this. Here's my two cents: First, you need an electronic ignition distribuitor that has both mechanical advance that matches your engine and has counterclockwise rotation as viewed from the rotor button. Then you find a machinist who can cut down the HEI distribuitor housing to fit in your MM distribuitor mount and cut the shaft to fit in your MM distribuitor coupling. I can't recall what a HEI distribuitor looks like for a 4 cylinder, but I'm pretty sure that the v-8 size distribuitor won't fit between either the block or the fan mount or the air cleaner, depending on whichever is closer. Oh, by the way-If your Z has a magneto, you're going to have to change the oil pump drive and driven gears, or you can use a gear reduction from a distribuitor equipped Farmall, such as a cub. But you still have to modify the drive coupling to fit.
