I ran onto an M 5 propane the other day. the fella that has it has converted it to a gas carb. It has a 3 point & wide front & PS. Tires are poor, paint is original. Seat is shot. Haven't heard it run yet, but it is free, just needs a new battery so he says. He's asking $1000 for it. Assuming that ti runs OK, is it worth that? & what else should I look out for? This is my first MM, had Olivers b4. Thanks, Mike

I paid more than $1000 for an M5 standard Lp with no 3pt hitch. It had over 9000 hours too.

If it were still LP and ran, it would be worth that in a second. With the gas conversion, that would be a deal breaker for me. Why would anyone do that? Advice on the amplitorque is very good. They tend to have trouble. There is a M5 LP here in TX that a guy WANTED 2500 (probably could have been got for 1500) for but we could not get it to run and it was rough. I decided to pass on that one.

One other thing is the TA "high-low range", it can be pricey to repair. They usually work in direct drive "high side" and slip or don't move in low range if bad. The transmission should be warmed up before using the low range, or damage to the clutches may result. Also, the power steering may be something to look at. leaks, no power, etc. Where did the guy put the gas tank? I bought an M5 gasoline for $500.00, put in a battery, minor tuneup, aired up one rear tire, and drove it 15 miles home. Pulls 3x14" pulltype plow everywhere no problem.

if in fact it is a propane tractor converted to a gas and it will run it will have a lot of compression and will run very well on gas. i have an allis chalmbers that i put in a propane engine kit for pulling and it has 300+ pounds of cylinder compression! it also runs on gas.
