The serial number you give would work for a MM RE engine that was made for a 1944 MM ZTU,If I read the serial number references at jetstar.minneapolis-moline.com correctly.

It could be the wrong engine in your tractor.

Does your tractor have 4 forward speeds? R's had 4, Z's had 5. Z's also had a gear shift lever that bend and slid into the right side of the transmission cover.
Is the gas tank a rounded 2-piece with a seam about 2" below the top, or does it have separate ends soldered in front and back? MM changed to the 2-piece tank in 1940, so if your tractor is 4-speed and has the old style tank with separate ends, it would have to be a 1939 or 1940 R.

sounds like a ZTU, or a JTU with the RE engine. Does it have round fenders or the flat fenders over the wheels? If it's a JTU, the radiator will say Twin MM City on the front. Does the muffler stick straight up or lay under the hood with the exhaust pipe sticking out on the left side of the hood? Does the air cleaner sit on the right or left side of the engine or is it out in front? John
