I have a A4T-1600 tractor that I'm going to be overhauling and was interested in info on how to set up the engine for a turbo. What I'm asking is what changes do I need to do with the Injection System? also for the oil system is there any special place to tap in for turbo oiling? I haven't found a turbo set up yet, factory or other wise. I know a few operators who are running Turboed D585's with no problems. But I don't know if they are factory set ups or after market types? does any one know which is better? Any ifo would be greatly appreciated.

We have a 585MM in our 2-150 White that we put a turbo on. All we did was welded a flange on the manifold where the original exhaust pipe came out. We got a n oil pressure feed line out of the left side of the block below the one large oil line an put the return above the fuel pump drive. We just overhauled our 2-150 and put the turbo pistons in. They will set you back $300 a piece and ring sets $80 a cylinder. They are pretty expensive but well worth it. The injection pump is turned up all the way by taking out the leaf spring out of the pump. It doesn't smoke black at all and runs right around 225-240 Hp. The 2-150 is weighted up to 19,000 can pull a 28 foot disc easily at 7mph up hill. We had to put in a double disc clutch to handle all of that power, but everything seems to handle the power alright. Overheating is not much of a problem, unless the radiator is full of junk that no air can flow through. We also have a 5,000 gallon tanker that we pull with it. Total weight of the manure, tanker , and tractor is around 80,000lbs. We can pull it up just about any hill in next to high gear. The 585 turboed should hold up decent, but you should probably replace the mains at least once between overhauls.

I'm not sure which engines or if any had piston cooling oil jet on the underside of the jugs. I came across a jug that had 2 holes in the bottom between the two cylinders. I am assuming that the holes were for mounting an oil spray jet. If anyone has any info. or could find out let me know. This would be the way to go to increase the life of the 585 MM. I 'm pretty sure that the jug came from factory that way. The jug is now in our 2155 Oliver that we use for pulling running around 350-400 HP. I would appreciate any info. Thanks

The first 585's had the oil coolers in the bottom of the cylinders. They were eliminated because of insufficient oil pum capacity. The external oil pump that was developed later would have been great with the coolers.

I think the factory turboes were sold as altitude normalizers not to increase HP. I installed one once and only succeeded in making it run hotter. I eventually took it off. If you increase the HP much you get in to other problems besides overheating such as clutch, tranny, etc. If you use the extra HP on Higher speed jobs you might like it but for lower speed jobs I wouldn't reccommend it..

I have watched my neighbor and good friend set up a 1350 and 2655 (A4T-1600). There were still some center section manifolds available thru AGCO a few years ago. He had to have the front and rear head sections custom fabricated, and did so out of stainless steel. If you can get your hands on a 585 service and parts manual, there might be some info on the HIGH ALTITUDE kit, which is what MM refered to it as. There were also TURBO piston sets, however you may have to contact Jahn's in California to have a set custom made. I do not know the exact HP my friend Donald is getting out of his 2655, but they are pulling a tandem hitch of 2 JD 1530 drills at 8 MPH! This man is so mechanically incredible, that I would bet a king's ransom that you could lay a dis-assembled MM in front of him being blindfolded, and he would perfectly re-assemble it!!!
