I was hoping that someone out there knows anything about Gray tractors. I saw one today, it must be extremely old, im guessing 1910's. the tractor has a huge 4 cylinder wakesha engine and also is covered by tin. the driver must have to stand in the right rear just behind the huge steel drive wheel. I have seen something similar to this at the Western Minnesota steam threashers reunion but paid little attention to it. The serial plate said Gray Tractor corp. Minneapolis Minnesota. any info would be great

The Gray Tractor Manufacturing Co. was pre-dated
by the Knapp Tractor built in upstate New York.
It was covered by tin work as it's original design
was for orchard work. It had a large drum drive
which kept soil compaction to a minimum. They
started manufacturing around 1908 and sold out or
moved to Minneapolis in 1914 where the tractor
was renamed to the Gray after the new owner and
CEO. Under the Gray name they used Waukesha 4 cyl
engines. They produced 5 models under Gray before
closing down around 1935. Limited funds and only
one model from 1925 to closing led to it's end.
Also other manufacturers like IHC, JD, etc. were
producing models for orchard work at a lower cost
then Gray could produce.
