Help- I want to find out some more about the Mineapolis Moline Big Mo 400 Military model. All I can find on the internet is seria nummber list, from which it appears that maybe around 700 were produced. I have not been able to find any photos or specs and dont have anything in my home library, either.

I have been offered one for $175 that has one cracked cylinder wall but otherwise complete and with good rear tires. It has one of those big brass military spec plates on it, too. What do you guys think? All opinions appreciated-I dont even know what one looks like!

Thanks,

Thanks for the help everyone.- Well I bought it-picked it up today. Tires aren't as good as I thought, otherwise I havent had a chance to look it over too much yet, Engine is disassembled, one cylinder block is cracked which is why the P.O. gave up on it. All the brass Army Corps of Engineers tags are pretty neat, though. Not as heavy as I was afraid of- the spec plate says 4845 pounds. It also came with an original repair catalog which says Big Mo 400M tractor with M220A-4 engine. The tractor is serial # 17000226 with a note that someone left in the manual that it is #226 of 612 produced for the contract. Date of production was September 1959. If anyone is interested, I will try to get some photos of it.

If it was closer I would buy it site unseen for that price. If it was in my area I would give a finders fee $ for it. When I can buy a whole tractor for the price of one new rear tires and it has good used tires on I would buy it on the spot. The only downside is if the distance is to far that it cost to much to ship it. The crank, crank case, and rods will be of military specs but the rest of the unit should match up with a farm model. The bottom end you could find in a salvage yard. Any M-M with the 206 over head valve engine will bolt in and work. This engine was made from 1956 to 1972.If you need parts or manuals give me a email as I the parts mgr at our dealership and we stock a fair amount of parts for this size M-M. I have noticed over the past few years that some of the M-M parts prices have gone down because of the restorations and they(Agco) are makeing and selling a larger volume.

John,
The engine in a Big MO 400M is not the same as a 4 Star. The bearing journals are different size due to conforming to some military specs. The jugs (cylinders) are a different height, the engines are different size (4* - 206 CuIn, 400M - 220 CuIn) If you want to restore it or just fix it, there are some parts available, or you could part it out.

The tractor is well worth $175 due to the fact that the rear wheel hubs are very hard to find and therefore worth way more than that.

Are you saying $175.00 for it? And that the person wants to sell it to you for that? If so take it because I do believe that is teh same tractor as the 4-Star and the motor parts will interchange with each other. If not let me know where it is.
