I have an R about 49 or so. It has a small hydraulic pump on it that runs off the engine oil. It's on side of crankcase near back. It has one small lever to lift or lock/lower the "jack" or cylinder for say mounted cultivators or small units like that. W/out the mounting and implement it's not much good. Some later R's had a better unit with it's own oil supply behind engine near battery. They are some better. Not sure how much you could run with that set-up. Surely not like the 3pts and ported hydraulics of later models for sure. Maybe for an implement jack lift on the implement itself. Operator's manuals and parts books show these systems.

Hydraulics are rather common on Rs, even in the first year of production (1939). VERY early 1939 Rs are less likely to have hydraulics, but once you get to about serial number 401100, they are pretty common.

Dual-control hydraulics are typically a little less common on Rs than are the basic single-control units.

I hope this helps. If you have an R (or any other M-M tractor), please register it in The M-M Registry if you haven't done so already!

Respectfully,
