Folks, I am in need of oversized pistons for a Z motor. Shop tells me I'm .016 worn out. Would like to have some .020's or .030's over. Where to find?

Curt,I do have a set of used M&W .125 overbore pistons for sale if interested. They will raise your cubic inches from 206 to 220.They are 3-3/4 bore and are aluminum which are lighter than your original cast pistons.I am running a set of these pistons in a ZA motor in an R tractor and they give you about 5-6 horsepower over standard bore pistons.

My ZTU is bored .180" over & I pull with it. Would not bother me a bit to bore that far. My cylinders were so bad I had to go that route or throw them away. I believe you can get .040" & .060" over pistons at Welters also. Have you thought about knurling your old pistons?

Hello,
If your not careful you can get that bore off to the side just a little bit, then is will break though the side, either before its bored out or when you start it up.
From the factory most bore were not exactly centerd, if your is then a good machine shop will be able to get the bore down the center.
I have a block that wasnt centerd and the piston came thought the side in about 2 minutes of run time
good luck
Shawn

Sir, Welters Farm Supply of Verona, MO sells 3.81 Z pistons in cast aluminum. They work well and at a reasonable cost too. That is bored over 1/8" + .060" I don't have the phone number on me, but I will get it for you. As for .020 or .030, good luck. I just sold .060 a few years back. Welters may have something sitting around.

I am very concerned about boring those cylinders .185 over. I've heard of some stress cracking at .125. Do I need to be concerned.

Maybe, but the only risks I've seen is my friend who had a heck of a time at 3.875 bore. Took 5 pairs of blocks to get that to work. I think for the most part people have had good luck with those. I could be wrong. More Us than Zs out there so more info on the bigger engines. Ask around some. You might be right.
