My father and I purchased a UTU with the 340 engine in it. I know a 403 G was rated at 58hp and with some compression and should make about 75hp. What was the old 4.25" x 6" 340 engine rated for horsepower? MM put a few of them in to their UTI tractors apparently. We are considering sticking with the 340 for 5500/6500 class pulling. Enough power to play a little in those classes? Anyone know how much horsepower these were or what they can have? We would like to crank it up just a little.

I think about 1100 "G" Minnies came out with the 340 engine. I do not know the exact horsepower figure but it is really close to the 403. It should be a very powerful engine in your UTU, I think it would be a good project. The only 340 I had experience with was a 1952 GTC LP that I had a couple years ago, it was very worn out but the 340 was still running strong. I thought it was pretty comperable to a 403 "G". Good Luck..

Why don't you list every tractor you and your dad has. Then ask us all at once how to get more power without spending any money. We can all get you the same advice we already told you (and you won't do.)
If you want to know the horsepower of your tractor put it on a dyno.

Hey Scott. Thanks. That was a good laugh. More good MM questions to come, I promise.

Wah, wah, wah! Just wondered if there was ever a manufacturer's HP rating or Nebraska test on this 340 motor. If you wish not to comment then no one is making you. I can crank enough power out of a gas for relatively little dollars. Just fuzzy on diesel pump/injector stuff and oddball engine parts. Always enjoy hearing everyone's personal tricks and tweaks, meeting new wonderful Moline people, and hearing good stories. Wanna tractor list? Ok then. Continuing the proud MM family tradition:
