I need a tractor with a 3 point hitch, capable of loading logs, and general farm work (bush hog, plow/disc, post holes, move dirt for tanks and roads etc.) I want 80-100 HP, gasoline (everything else is gas and I'd like to stick to one fuel). I've considered M670 suuper, 900, 950, 1000, 1050, 1350 (already I've broadened to LP).
1. Considering similar contditions of equipment, are there other reliability issues between these models?
2. I've heard gereral complaints about the hydralics not being that good. Is this a major problem, a maintenance issue? Is it something that can be upgraded?
Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have operated both m670super and 1000 and 1000vista.Would take both over a 4020JD any day but the day i sold out.The 670 is just as easy to drive as the 4020 and also you dont get the damn cheap dash shifter stuck like you do on a 4020 because the 670 is floor mounted.Another good reason to take the 670 is that it will take half the fuel the 4020 will.

1. I don't think there would be any reliability differences between the models you mentioned. The 670 super is a smaller tractor, lighter 3 point parts, lighter wide front spindles, less total weight than the other models. Early 900 and 1000 tractors could have lighter components also than the 50 series.
2. I don't agree that the hydraulics are a problem. What are we comparing them to? The 50 series tractors are going to have the closed center hydraulics and the possibility of 3 remote valves and more lift in the 3 point than the 900 or 1000 models but they all work well for farm non-industrial tractors of that age. An indusrial backhoe type tractor will have more loader lift and hydraulics than these and have I-beam front axles but they weren't made to do rowcrop field work. These models will all have good hydrostatic power steering.
Most of these models were sold with diesel engines, some with LP engines, and very few with gasoline engines in a couple models such as 670, maybe 900.
There is a big difference in horse power from the 670 to the 1350. Just my opinions.

I own an M5 with the gas engine and wide front end. I have also owned a 670. I would recommend either of these tractors as long as they had the wide front end. From what I have been told, the M5 is basically the same as the 670, except a little older. I have had only monor problems with hydraulics - nothing to be worried about in my opinion.

Always the Deere John answer. When you see the difference in the money I doubt if he'll be around to help you with it.

But you have to admit it is a better tractor! Much nicer to operate. Far better hydrolics.

I hate to tell you this but your 4020 doesn't have any better hydraulics than the 670, 900, or 1000 and the 950, 1050 and 1350 all have by far better hydraulics especially for use with a loader. And the JD's of that time are not better to operate. All a JD is a some green paint and an over rated name. Your JD may not be as loud as the MM when it is under a hard load but it wont pull like the MM because it doesn’t have the TORQUE!!

The MM tractors are very reliable all you have to do is actually take care of them. In other words don't beat the HELL!! out of them and expect them to stand up to your JD you baby. The MM's are a very well built tractor.

The MM's that had the hydraulic problem were the 335 and 445. None of the later tractors had hydraulic problems.
