We have had Minneapolis Moline tractors on our farm since 1950. We had tried most models since and still have eight. Our first four wheel drive was a used A4T 1600. We were told that it had been repowered. I think we bought it in 1978. I was reading some of the chat about these tractors dated october 02 on this site. That got me thinking so I just checked out the name plate. We do have an odd one. The plate says it's an A4T 1400. The engine is the 585 Diesel. The serial no. is 43900028. The 28th one built I think. We put on the external oil pump a couple of years after we got it. The grill has the verticle metal screen bars. The nose cone is plastic and says White. The drop box or the 2 speed gear box that attaches to the back of the transmission is MM yellow. It was replaced because you can still see the gasget cement that squeezed out 25 or more years ago. It doesn't have closed center hydraulics. I would guess that this tractor came from the factory without a cab. It has the front fenders with the steps. The cab does say Minneapolis Moline on the back in a nice narrow strip and a small emblem near the left door says something about minneapolis. It has two doors and was quite noisy and hot since it had no AC. It has a forward look to it. We were told that it was made from two G900 rear ends when we bought it. I read somewhere where they were supposed to be 950 rear ends. It is equipped with factory cast hubs that bolt onto the inner cast wheels so 9 bolt duals are attached to them. It has no PTO and no hole in the pivot area for a shaft to even power through. There is a removable plate on the upper part of the rear flat surface of the back defferential. The cab isn't much good anyway so if anyone has any information on how to get this tractor back to it's origional open platform with rails, please let me know or if anyone justs want to know more or discuss it further. We also have 3 Vista's, a G-1355 and more older ones including our first 1950 UTU purchased new by our dad.

My brother purchased a A4t 1600 a few years ago. It had a 585 with a broken valve in the engine. We took the engine apart and repaired it and rebuilt the internal oil pump. This tractor did not have the external pump on it. It dose not have 3 point or PTO either. When we were cleaning it up for painting we found the A4t-1400 decal under the A4T-1600. The ID tag says it is a 1400 with serial number 439000154. It also has the smaller cab on it. This could have been original from the factory. I was told that all of the original A4T-1400 diesels had the 504 engine in them. This did not have enough power so all the tractors were recalled to the factory or repowered by the dealers. I am assuming that the one my brother has was repowered by the dealer since it still has the original ID tag on it. I don’t think that there are many of the original A4T-1400’s left out there. There is another farmer here in central MN who has a A4T-1600 with engine serial number 2, unfortunately I do not know what the tractor serial number is.
I would say that you have a rare one.
