A friend of mine just purchased 2 diesel tractors. They both have Massey hoods and nose with some faded red paint and gold showing through. The first one is serial #17301399 and the plate says Massey Ferguson on it and has faded red paint on it. I believe this one to be a Massey 95 Super - it also says this on the hood. This tractor looks identical to a M-M GVI except for the faded red paint and the Massey hood & nose. The second one is more of a mystery. It too has the Massey sheet metal on the front but, on the rear it is all gold and the serial # is 23900064 and says Minneapolis-Moline on the plate and also on the back of the fenders. The injector pump on this one is larger also. I believe this tractor is actually a G705 that someone put a Massey hood and nose on at some point in it's life. A serial number reference seem to confirm this but I was hoping for some more confirmation from anyone. Also where can engine rebuild kits bee found for these engines? One more question...does GVI stand for G6 as in roman numeral or is it gvi as in letters? Thanks for any help!

kman,
Check the engine serial number plates to see if they say Moline or Massey on them. It may have been a Moline with a blown motor and a Massey with a bad rear end put together to make one good tractor. The Massey 95 Super is the same tractor as the GVI. The Massey 95 (non super) is the same as the GBD and the Massey 97 is the same as the G705/706. GVI stands for a 6 cylinder G model as compared to the earlier G 4 cylinder models. So yes, the VI stands for the roman numeral 6.

The one I know is a Massey 95 Super does say something about Massey and Toronto, Ontario on the engine plate...the other mystery tractor does not have a plate. I guess one could pull the head and check the cylinders -from what I've read the G705 has a larger bore than the GVI engine.Any idea on where to get engine parts?

kman,
Don't tear the engine down unless absolutely necessary for a rebuild. Just post the casting #s from the cylinders. The #s are different between the GVI (425 ci 4-1/4" bore) and the G705 (504 ci 4-5/8"). I've got a MF 97 hybrid also. Its got Massey rear end, Moline Fenders, GVI block, Massey cylinders (504) and heads and Massey sheet metal.
I get most of my parts from Welter's in Missouri (417-498-6496). Where are you located? There are several MM parts places around. Oversize pistons for 425 diesels do not exist it seems but you can use standard bore 451 pistons (G900/950 engine) in the 425 cylinders.
