Have a loader on my 1967 Jetstar 3. Have used it for a few months now without a problem, but now it is moving very slowly and "chattering" and vibrating while raising. I have noticed that the power steering is doing similar things. Have checked the hydraulic oil and the level is fine. This tractor does have the PTO attachment (can't think of what it's called) that is suppose to assist the hydraulic process. Can anyone tell me what is most-likely wrong with my tractor? Thank you.

What you should do besides the filter and fluid change is move the filter to a position where flow to it is more efficent and then it will not cavitate so easily. We've done this modification on many tractors and helped the hyd. work better. This design was factory on later applications. It is an easy job and you probably have all you need in your shop or garage to do it. Dale

It sound like the hyd filter. That should be on the left side in roughly a 4 x 8 in canister. It will show it in the operators manual. If you need a manual let me know.

I'm assuming your jet3 has the filter in a canister under the left side of the seat. 2 things to check (besides a clogged filter): In a service letter I read that the fittings that seal the canister can admit air to the system so that action is eratic. Since that is the highest part of the system, it won't leak oil. also, if yours has a rubber elbow coming out of the reservoir, check it for cracks.

I got a new filter from NAPA. The filter fit fine, but the gasket was too small and I had to "make" it work.
