I have a friend that is looking for a service and parts manual for an engine in a MM. He gave me the Model of the engine as RE and the serial number 79987. He doesn't know the tractor model number or serial number nor the year. Any help would be appreciated. Is there a more specific way of finding out the model (tractor) and serial numbers?

Dale,

Sounds like your friend has a ZT tractor, they used the RE engine that you referenced. The serial number you gave is for a 1947 model year. The tractor should have an ID plate on the right side of the transmission housing around the pivot area of the hand clutch. Their is no specific parts manual for just the engine that I know of, but the parts book for the ZT series will have the engine parts also. I stand to be corrected but don't know of a service manual put out by M-M for the ZT series, but they did make one for the ZA series and alot of information would cross. You could also look for an I&T manual covering the Z's. Also, an original owners manual will hold a wealth of information for the tractor. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jim. He did mention something about a Z model, but I see that there is a number of Z__'s out there. I will try to narrow down what his model is and see about getting some manuals for him.
