I am restoring a 1951 RTE and was wondering what is the best way to clean out the fuel tank, the tank is not overly rusty, but needs some TLC. Also, I am about to purchase the paint for this tractor and I have heard mention of PPG paint. It sounded like this was a really good paint but I have no Idea where to find a place that sells it nor do I have the paint codes. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

I have used B Bs, the kind used in B B guns. Strap to a tractor tire while jacked up and turn slowly. Just a little diesel fuel to keep the rust dust down. May take a few times but works fairly good.

The PPG paint can be found by looking up autobody
suppliers in your phone book. The code DAR 60039.
Be aware that this paint is costly, but is about
the best you can use. The code for your wheels
which should be red is DAR 72083. PPG offers a
cheaper line known as OMNI which you might want
to check out as well if cost is a concern.

I have used the PPG Omni acrylic urathane paint. I don't remember the formula but it is good paint and easy to apply. If you would like, I can e mail you the code for the prarie gold.

to remove rust from a tank, we put a couple hands full of hex nuts along with a quart or 2 of diesel fuel inside the tank, seal any holes so they don't leak & strap it to a rear tractor wheel with tarp straps. Let the tractor run fairly slow (with that wheel jacked up), so the nuts roll around, until rust is removed. Gravel will also work but you can't get stuborn stones out with a magnet.
