Oil is streaming from the brake cover housing of my U302. I have not taken the cover off to examine, but am expecting a bad seal. My I&T manual does not provide much information on removing and replacing the seal. Any suggestuions or warnings are appreciated. Thanks.

Are you having any problems with the Brakes? Seems like you would with that much oil.

If your U302 is made like a Jetstar, there is a round cover over the brake disks, recessed in the final drive housing.

To remove: take out the actuator bolt from the pedal lever.
Then you loosen the 3 bolts in the cover-run the threads out, but leave them part way in the cover. Jetstars have spacers on the bolts My u302 parts book doesn't show them.
grab 2 bolts and sort of pinch them together as you pull outward. should bring all 3 bolts their spacers and the cover at 1 time.

The shaft will have a brake disk, actuator assembly, and another brake disk, in that order going inward.

The seal is in a round cover behind all that. On Jetstar, its held in by 3 studs so remove the nuts.

I used the long bolts in the outer cover to pull the inner cover. It has clearance holes, so just stick 2 bolts in the holes but don't turn them, pinch together again, and pull outward. The threads should bind enough in the holes to pull the cover free.

There will be shims behind this and you need to keep them in order so they will go back in and seal the housing nice. On Jetstar, I think there was a paper gasket, too, but U302 book doesn't show one. It shows an O-ring on the inner cover.

there will also probably be an oil drain hole drilled from the edge of the cover up to the seal. This is turned down when you reinstall the cover. Its supposed to feed the oil away from the inside brake disk if it leaks.
