Just got my G-1355 home and have some questions. It does not have the external oil pump on it, I think I should probably put that on, is there a kit somewhere I can buy the pump and a spin on oil filter system for it??? The big 585ci sounds good but it is smoking a little, I am going to change all the fluids and tear into it some more tonight and see what else I find. The high range is out of the three speed, so I will have to check on that, and it needs some paint sometime soon, but I can get to that. Any advice on this tractor????

If the "over" side of the 3 speed is out, more
than likely the bearings are out of the sun gear.
This is the shaft that runs over the top of the
other shafts in the 3 speed. It was not meant to
be pulled hard for long periods of time. You were
supposed to pick a gear that would pull the load
in the middle range, then shift up and down as
needed. If it has been run long enough to ruin the
top shaft it will be cheaper to buy a rebuilt
unit. It has been 15 years since I worked on one.
You will need to price the parts both ways.

Thanks for the advice, do you know where I might check for a rebuilt unit?? That sounds like the way to go, that way I can split the tractor, take one unit out and put the other one back in and be running again pretty quickly.

I had a two of my Oliver three speeds quit on me last year and had them fixed for $300 to $600 or so but they still had all their gears, they just started leaking fluid.

Thanks for the help.

The Agco dealer should be able to get one for you.
The 1355 ran more presure to help hold the
clutches in. You need to look yours over to see
which way is cheaper to go.

Hey, you have some of my Rice & Cane tires. Where did that tractor come from?

It came from Layfatte, LA or near there, town called Rayne. I dont know what brand they are but they are not that old and are 18.4x38 tires. I bet I am the only one for miles and miles around here in the mountains to have rice and cane tires on a tractor. Least I wont have to worry about putting tires on this tractor for a while.

They look like the B F Goodrich design which could be an Armstrong or Coop if were purchased later. The Goodyear would split at the base of the lug, the Firestones will slick over if you get in any red clay mud but that B F Goodrich will just keep on cleaning every lug and walking on. In the mud you will move either forward or down!

I looked tonight and they are Armstrong tires. They look to be in good shape, but I know nothing about them or how they will do in our clay and limestone rocks around here.

Thanks for the insite.

we have a G1350 with a Internal oil pump and it has gave us great service. To understand what has failed in these engines look to the components. First the oil pump drive shaft in the later engines had a larger hole drill in it, weakening the shaft. Second people have the idea that turning up the oil pressure helps. That is incorrect. It made the problem worse. You can't force feed an engine. In other words the oil pump is more of a charge pump. The engines rotation causes oil to properly flow. The added stress of trying to pump more oil cause Premature oil pump drive gear failure. Always run your engine at factory oil psi specs and use good oil. All engines have stress areas but nothing finds them faster than bad dirty oil.
