Got a 1968 670 Super gas. It has had the low end of the T/A out for ten years. Now just recently the high range is getting so bad it will hardly pull itself. I want to keep the tractor but I do not know the complexity of a torque amplifier repair. If I were to take it to the agco dealer how much do you guys reckon a new torque could run? I am a lousy mechanic, are there good enough blueprints out there that I could do it myslef? If so, is it costly to do yourself? Any followups would be appriciated!

torque system consists of clutch pack used for high range and sprag clutch for lo. when sprag clutch wears out (slips), no lo range. hi range usually goes because ears have broken off clutch disks. is not terribly expensive to fix if you can split the tractor. shop manual covers it all.

have you adjusted the torque lately. meaning the clutch? when I bought my g1000 wheatlanfd it would bearly pull itself in high but a small adjustment later and it ran like new.

I have not been into the clutch in the 15 years I have owned it. If that is the problem then that requires I split the tractor, correct? It has about 5000 hours and it has always been pretty good aside from this T/A. I would not mind it running in either high or low, but neither is a problem.

I am meaning the torque clutch. the adjustment procedure is the same on the G1000 to the 670. It is really easy to put the T/A in high? if so maybe all you need it to adjust the clutch pack. On the G1000 there is a small plug in the side of the tran housing. remove plug , rotate engine to see adjuster ring lock pin. Then push lock pin in and tighted adjuster nut two notches only. then test. might need another later.

It lever does slide into high range easily. I think I will research this procedure with my a agco dealer a little futher and try it. Thank you all very very much for the help If doing this proceedure every now and again can save my 670 from monsterous repair bills, then it is definately worth a shot! thanks again

It like most clutches need a little tlc once in a while. Most problems with these t/a's are the low side sprag but occasionally it is the clutch pack. I have heard of people shifting from low to high under load and all the ears break off the clutches. They are ususally on high time tractors. We have an M5 that has over 14000 hrs on it with the original clutch pack, unfortunately not the same sprag.
