I had posted a message some time ago regarding the horsepower of a 340cu.in. 4 1/4" x 6" engine. I didn't know thw h.p.. I pulled this stock 340 for the first time and won a third on questionable tires. Never ran out of power. In the higher speed class it had just enough power to keep em spinning in second gear on heavy wet clay track. I placed in the middle of the pack. This was 5500 pounds. Seems to do ok. Guessing 60hp? Maybe more? Anyone? Just a U carb and GE30E heads. Might be bored a little. Thanks guys in advance for any comments.

I would think 60+ easy with a lot of torque.

Yes. It has torque for it's size. The small bore long stroke combo works well. The 403 G was 58 horse with low compression at 1100 rpm so maybe a higher compression bored 340 running 1500 or so would be pretty good. Thanks for the guess Andy. I hope to dyno it soon.
