I recently bought a M-5 LP, converted to gasoline. It has a gas carb with a gravity feed from the old LP tank. Seems to starve out at anything above a fast idle. It has a clear fuel filter in-line (new) & it is only 50% full after running. Will not get above fast idle, & will actually die out if throttle is left in this position. Is my only solution an electric fuel pump? I have checked points & plugs & they are OK. Cap, rotor & wires are new. Ideas anyone? Thankw, Mike

I believe half-full on the filter is OK. I have one on my 54 2-ton truck and it never gets full even when stopped. I have the standard pump also. Gas in the LP tank?? How do you fill that? OR, how did you weld on the fittings spigot and place for cap w/out exploding?? I'ld say you had diff problem than fuel not running fast enough. Maybe a carb plugged somewhere/how? The vented cap is a very good place to look at also.

Kevin is on track: if your 'conversion' has a pipe cap like my last aquisiton, it might be pulling a vacum in the tank. Try runing it with the cap off the tank.

You need a good steady stream of gasoline from the tank. I'd check the flow at the carb. Try catching it in a container. Does it flow the same from the time you start till the container is about full?

If you didn't install that filter, I'd change it. It might look O.K. but be gummed up. I'd change to some kind of screen, like in an inline fuel bowl.
Most of those filters were intended to have the fuel pumped through them at some pressure difference, when used in automotive applications.

I would also do a thorough carburetor cleaning and instal a new carburetor kit.

Also, is it an all-downhill run to the carb? This ZAS monstrosity I have will probably have to have about 4-6" fuel in the LP tank for it to flow to the gasoline carb.

Is the fuel cap used vented or not? Also what size fuel line is being used for it?

I have a M670 lp converted to gasoline last fall and I had the same problem with mine. My problem ended up being that the fitting in the tank that the fuel line hooked up to was getting clogged with rust scale from inside the lp tank, even though I took it off the tractor and washed it out. My solution, unscrewed the fuel bowl from the tank and put a screen into the fitting that fits into the tank. The screen was a filter from a paint gun purchased at Home Depot (about 4" long and 1/2" in dia. Now that filter catches all the rust chips and I haven't had any problems since.
