Looking at a Jetstar for a small 12 acre homesite. No crop work, but alot of utility maintenance. Can a Jetstar handle a front end loader? What are the general opinions of this small MM tractor? Was PS standard?

David

I have a Jetstar that didn't have power steering, put a Char Lynn unit on it. Works great for anything you need to do. 40 horsepower, it runs my 9' New Holland hay conditioner, baler, posthole digger, has a New Idea front end loader on it which will pickup enough weight to break a front spindle. "experience" I'm using it on 17 acres, the only thing I've heard about problems is the amplitorque, if yours has that, check it out. Hope this helps. John

John G.,

I have a brown Jetstar without power steering. Could you tell me where you got that Char Lyn unit? Was it for the MM or did you have to retrofit?

Hi Bob, Sorry I'm so late in answering, I just saw the message. The Char Lynn unit is universal, fits right in the steering shaft "which must be cut to fit", I got mine from a junk yard. It only requires 1 inlet "pressure" hose, 1/2" pipe thread, and 1 return the same size. I plumbed mine into the hyd system going from the filter to the loader valve. That way, steering happens before loader lift, although there is never a delay in either on this tractor. If you need more info, email me, I do have some literature on this setup. John

John,
If you have a jet3 without factory power steering, would you please go the minneapolis-moline.com website and post a reply to the fellow JK inquiring whether many were made like that.

Mine is the Brown Jet, not a JS3, 1962 vintage.
