JET 3 STABILIZER BARS/STABILIZER HINGE?

I have a woods mower behind my Jetstar 3 Super. The mower sways excessively, back-and-forth. I purchased a set of stabilizer bars for the 3 point hitch with the idea of stopping the sway, but I do not know how to put them on. The tractor manual says "...attach them to the hitch pins on the implement (no problem) and to the stabilizer hinge. What is the stabilizer hinge and where is it located? Please help!

Bolt a piece of angle under axle pad with lift pin in it. Make piece of fairly heavy flat iron correct length to go between that and lift pin of drag link. dimensions are not really critical as all you want to do is prevent sway, not make it track the three point all the way up and down.

The parts manual shows a diagram of the stabilizer bars and hinge. As I recall, the stabilizer bars go on the inside of the lower links, and meet at the hinge point. This is a different arrangement than I have seen on any other tractor.

I no longer have my Dad's JetStar III or the manuals, so this is from memory. I think you could fabricate a hinge, but you would have to experiment with dimensions, since the manual doesn't give them.

Good luck.

Sorry I was griping yesterday. If you need the dimensions of that hinge, I can make a drawing for you. Kelvin

Where did you get the stabilizer bars?

The correct stabilizer bars for a Jet3 meet in the center under the pto shaft. The 'hinge' is a cast yoke about 3" long that is free to pivot in a bracket just above the drawbar. The stabilizer bars fit in the free end of this yoke.

I guess there might be some advangage to doing it this way. I haven't found it yet. The stabilizers have to be put on the implement pins befure the lift arms. Then you gotta hunt to find the point of lift where you can swing them up and put them in that yoke without hitting the drawbar support on the tractor which is agrivating.

The other thing: you can't use the PTO shield on the tractor with MM stabilizers. as the lift comes up, they'll bend it.

The Jet3super I bought had homemade brackets for Ford-type stabilizers. I sure wish I hadn't thrown them away.

I made some stabilizer bars a month or so ago for my 335 to work on a 4' rotary cutter. I found out today that they won't work on my new 5' King Cutter. They hit the pto when the mower is raised.

the later jet star had 2 chains on the inside of the arms to the drawbar plate not the arm type
