JD, I have a '37 Moline Twin City Universal JT that is tough shape also. It's loose and the gears appear OK. I am in need of manuals and am having a hard time finding any. Not knowing where to start is a problem, too. How are you progressing along? Are you getting any response to your calls for help? I put new rubber on mine, so I'm into it and on my way!

Hi JD,

I would be interested if you find any good locations for parts!

I just picked up a J Twin City tractor this weekend at a sale.

It's pretty nice, but it is sure going to need some parts. I just love old MM and Twin City tractors and equipment.

Where are you located? I'm in the top part of the Texas Panhandle.

Hi,
I think Dan Hempelman of Peoria, Arizona has a JTO. In fact, I can email you a picture and tell you more about them if you email me.
Regards,

I am sorry to inform those who might not know but Dan Hempelman passed away in Sept 2001. He is sorely missed by the tractor collectors of this area. His JTO is still in the family.

I also have a running JTO. Mine is not nearly as nice as Dan's. It sure would be nice to find someone who could make the replacement sheet metal for the JTO. Dan had several sets made over the years but that person's price has gotten too high for me.

E-mail me if you think I can help you with your project.

Is that "JTO" of yours still acting like a yard decoration or have your neighbors finally prevailed? I found an old Minnie Mo that I need your opinion on. Dennis

Sorry, I had no clue that he passed away. I've seen him on tv and one the internet and totally admired him. I had seen his 37 ZTU, his three J's, a ZAU, a BF, and possibly a KTA. The one almost looked like a 21-32. He had an interview on the television at a particular tractor show and he said he had a little over 60 tractors. The show was on RFD TV. The event was the Winter of 96 Arizona Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Associations Annual Tractor Pull & Small Engine Show at Glendale, AZ. I've got it taped. His 37 Z pulled over 200% its weight. I totally respect the guy and wish I would have known him. I think I would have gotten along with him pretty good. He looked like he was really happy.

Are you a friend of his, fellow collector, or a relative? What did he all have in his collection?

I had the oportunity to meet Dan, and he was a superb gentleman. He was very gracious as he allowed me to explore his large collection of tractors. I'm sure Dan is missed.

I also had the chance to meet Keith on a separate trip to the S.W. and found him to be equally open to sharing his small but impressive collection. Trever, I highly suggest you talk to keith about the JTO as he is very knowledgeable of the MM's.

I really wished I would have had the opportunity to talk to him. He seemed pretty mechanically inclined, as most of us are. Did he pass the tractors down the line or sell them?

Keith, I am very curious about his collection. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could we talk some more via email about him and his collection, as well as you and your collection? I'm very interested in learning more about these tractors, especially the vintage of the MM merger with Twin City. I sure would email you but your email is hidden.

Joe, what about you and your collection if interested in sharing?

Thanks,
Trever Maas

I don't have very big collection....yet.
I have an RTU that my gradfather bought used in the mid to late fifties. (the one that started the insanity)
A 53 ZB serial #67
a 49 UTU
a 55 BG serial #1110
a 37 JTU w/ RE engine that I need to get running
And lastly a 63 Mocraft 107

not much but a start

Joe,
That's a nice little collection. I like those ZB's, Avery's, and the J's. I like the flat front, the raised column, and the foot clutch on the ZB's.

Trever,

The ZB has to be my current favorite tractor. I have done about everything w/ it from parading to pulling, plowing to baling. It is a lot of fun to drive and I like the looks. Now I just need the time to get a couple of these things painted.

Joe,

Yes, they are nice looking tractors as well as nice running. They've got a good size stroke to them for a Z. The engine is pretty simple and easy to work on. They also pull well due to a slow running engine, as far as torque is concerned. Grandpa had a ZB, sold it for $1200 restored. Sure was a nice looking tractor with hydraulics, live pto, raised platform, and flat front. They must have had power steering due to the flat front, correct?
