Have '67 G1000 with 2 speed ampli-torque, transmission oil pump & cooler. Getting confusing/conflicting recommendations for correct transmission fluid. I have a drum of JD Hy-Gard I use for hydraulic fluid. Is this too light? Also have 80-90 that I've been using in rear-ends of 302 & 670s. What's best or acceptable? Thanks for responding!

This is one of those subjects that keeps returning. My local AGCO/White dealer has a oil chart for all MM models. I used AGCO power fluid. I do not have the numbers or specs in front of me, but can get them from the container if you want. It appears heavier than HyTran, but not as heavy as 80-90 which I use in my "splash" tranny tractors even though there is much scuttle butt to use hytran

The trans-hyd fluid works great in the hyd system but I would stay with the 80-90 for the transmission. One neighbor who has a G1000 said his pto clutch seemed to slip some after changine to trans-hyd oil. He changed back to 80-90w soon after and said his pto worked better. I dont know if this is a problem with later M-M's if the oil is changed to trans-hyd or if it was just his tractor. I use 80-90w in my trans and the trans-hyd oil in the hyd system with no problems in my Jet Star 3 Super.

I was told my former dealer, now still MM mechanic that MM put out a bulletin reccomending to use Universal hydraulic fluid in gear case with ampli-torque. Was supposed to be better for it. Use 80-90 w/out torq. I bought the Universal stuff, much like your JD stuff from TSC to use in my M670. It is much thinner than the 90wt, so I hope that fellow was right. I'm also using it my tele-flo, also reccommended ovet the trans fluid they tell to use in MM books. So There, now you have another opinion to consider!

I used 80w -90 in my 67 G 1000 Vista LP. I cleaned the pump screen accesible from round plate on bottom of case . I saw great improvement in hydraulic clutch behavior. While Vista's run about 180 psi, regular G 1000 runs about 20 psi on lube pump I think.
