Does anyone know how hard it is to put a PTO in a G-1000 tractor. I know where there is a G-1000 wheatland tractor that i can buy cheap but it has no PTO, but it does have a spot for one I have found several Pto's for it in the 500 dollar range. I am just wondering how hard it is to put one in. Any input is appreciated.

Greetings from the Kansas Plains. Wish you were
buying a row crop as I have 2 G 1000's in the
salvage yard with PTO that I would take half that
much for the PTO unit. As for why Wheatlands
didn't have 3pt. or PTO. We just didn't need em
around here. Farming large acerage's of Wheat
required horsepower and lots of it. In 1968 we
bought a G VI. I started disking around a half
section and all I could think of was how much
faster the job was going to be with this tractor.
At the time 6 acres an hour was covering a lot of
ground. Our smallest field was 80 acres, West of
us the fields are even bigger.

Andy, I don't really know for sure, but will give my idea. Looking at parts books you will see diagrams of what's needed in parts and where to put a pto in. Some late tractors have a shaft drive that has to go on the flywheel in center. It is splined to match the shaft that comes thru the trans and tork for drive. AND, some parts of tork or trans shafts and outer shafts that the pto shaft goes inside are different than the tractors w/out pto. You would need to split the tractor to get to the flywheel and trans parts. Seems like a poor idea to try to install. The price of the pto will be much more and there's always parts needed, that someone overlooked, and you won't find out about till you're in there.

What is it about "Wheatland" tractors, that they never had pto/s and 3pts?? They just need power to pull big plows, discs and planters in the big wheat feilds or something? My opinion, a tractor is worth squat w/out a 3pt. They must not have bailed any straw so don't need pto??
