Been three years since I drove my Jet STar 3 Super. I got the tele-flo back from rebuilder, put it on and fired up and took a ride! No metal, still out being painted, no seat, but it was fun. New clutch was great and brakes too! Had a little leak on one line to hydraulics I have to look at, but it works great now too. I'm pretty happy, at least something I own is working and going well!

Great Work Gary! Must be a good feeling.

Hows the M670 coming along?

Trev, not too bad, haven't been working on it much, doing the Jet Star and my 54 2-ton truck lately. I have diddled a little tho. The tele-flo leaks, got a new gasket and a special o-ring called a Quad-ring for the pressure tube and tips from Hawk on how to remove the front plate and strap the stack to hold rest together to take tube out and seal in. Will do that soon. I put new plugs, cap and wires on, drained fluid from one tire, or most of it anyway. I was having trouble with it starting and staying running, but was dirty gas or water in it, I guess. I drained it and put in new and cleaned the bowl, seems good now. I have question, a City Boy kind! This tractor seems real soft like ride when I go down road. The seat is not working with rubber cushions yet, I have to get them on. So, is it the large tires that give the soft ride? or what? I get on my JS3 and it rides hard and I can feel each and every tire bar on that one. I like drivin' the 670, just don't have anything I can do with it! I might find a big blade for back if I have this winter, try to do some snow plowing? Course with now fluid and chains, probly won't work to good anyway! Also gotta figure out some wiring most lights and things are non-functional for sure.

What size rear tires do you have on each? If you have a smaller tire 24-28" they would ride a little rougher than a 34 or 38" as there is less tire contacting the ground and your center of gravity is less. That is what I believe anyway.

G.L.
Re: Your hard ride.
How much air do you have in those rear tires? 12 or 14 psi will give you a good ride. Sometimes when I am running in a hay field I let a little more out since there is hardly any pulling strain on the tires. Pullers often let them down to 4 or 5 psi, but that is too low for any work. The recommended max rear tire pressure is 35 psi, but that is way too much for comfort and most work. All you want is enough to keep them from wrinkling when they lug.

I'm guessing that it could be the tires, or possibly the rims aren't straight. Maybe the cords are getting weak on the JS3. Does it feel as bad as driving a tractor down the gravel with steel wheels at 11+ MPH? :) I know our M670 rides nice too. I wouldn't trade the tractor for much. Very powerful, and it's got a real throaty sound and engine. That engine like to wind up!

We use the M670 to blade the yard and driveway with the Massey-Ferguson blade, to plant in spring with a JD 6 Row, to cultivate in summer with a JD 6 Row Narrow, and occasionally to pull tractors or pull out stuck tractors. This spring I got the M Farmall stuck in the bean field trying to move machinery to mow under them. I had forgot that there was a wet spot there and the tractor just sank down. At the time the blade was on the M670 so we just tied the chain around the MF blade and the tractor just crawled and pulled out the M. There was another time when my dad was planting with the MF 2745 out in our gravel pit field by the diverted acres. Got the tractor stuck in a wet spot very badly. I think we may have even tried unhooking the planter to see if that would help to drive the MF out. That didn't help. So I got the 670 and first pulled the planter out of the field. Then I hooked onto the Massey and eventually got it out. I could have had the Massey out right away if it werent for the slippery CRP that I was in. Plenty of power but not a lot of traction. I had used the steering brakes at least a few times, but we eventually got it out. I hope to restore it after my dad retires from farming, unless I end up farming instead of working on Diesel's. That's what i'm currently doing.

Trev, New tires on Jet Star. Almost everything is new or rubuilt on it. It rides better faster than it does slow. Must be the cut on the bars or angle or ? whatever! Farming over Diesel mechanic? You Nuts? If you're not Huge on farm acres, don't think a guy can make it go, just like a business now days, and not a real great one at that!

Yeah, I know that would be a bad choice. Usually you here about these people that restore tractors being retired farmers so I thought it was a thing to follow their for awhile. But who's going to take over the farming????

At the new place where I am going to be starting on Monday, i'm going to get $8.75-$10.25 starting pay as an intern. Hopefully that works out good. It will be a big step up compared to my part time job of milking cows at $8/hr for three hours a time at my uncles, for usually only 2-3 times a week. I guess it's time to step up to the real world and take a challenge.

Yeah, restoring tractors is not to common for full timers. I always like to have a MM project going out in the barn in my spare time, kind of helps me wind down from work. And restoring a tractor often gives you some thing to cuss adn throw tools at, besides your boss. Very theraputic having an old MM around sometimes. Nothin like coming home from a long day at the office and unwinding by working on the M5 and..... then having a head bolt break off!
