I have been around MM's most of my life-cut my teeth on the steering wheel of a 47 U propane. I never heard of BF's until I read about them on this board. How many were made? Was there an even smaller "pony" tractor. Also, I am interested how many YT's were made? I see they were experimental so I don't imagine there were very many.

Gregg: Without looking it up, I believe that there were ~ 25 "YT" trators made. The story goes
that they were put out on farms to be tested for
1 season then 10 or 12 went back to the factory to be torn down and wear looked at. The others were
inspected at dealerships. The ones that went to the factory were destoryed. The dealers were told to get rid of them as the weren't to be built
as a production model. Needless to say the dealers
sold them. So ~12 still exist. The "BF" was built at the BF Avery Plant in
Louisville, KY after MM bought them out. It was
the same tractor as the Avery 'R' with a MM hyd.
lift system. I believe that MM bought them out in 1951 , if thats not correct maybe Brian Rukes
can give the correct date. The total run for the tractor (as a Avery "R" and MM "BF") was from
s/n R500 in 1950 - s/n R7571 in 1953. And a few
special versions were built in 1953 (like off sets) that amounted to ~ 1000 more units. They are neat small tractors. I have one that my grandpa sold new from his dealership that I have restored.

Yep, only 25 YTs were made.

Yep, M-M took over Avery in 1951.

Yep, BFs ran from #R500 to R7571, 1950 to 1953.

The BFD, made in '53, had a serial number run from 57700001 to 57700358.

The BFS, made in '53, had a serial number run from 57600001 to 57600047.

The BFH, made in '53, had a serial number run from 58000001 to 58000150.

If anyone knows what the "D", "S", and "H" mean in those models, I would really like to know for sure.

Hope this helps.

Respectfully,

To the best of my knowledge the code is as follows:
BFS=narrow front-single tire
BFD=narrow front-dual tire
BFW=wide adjustable front
BFH=high crop
