I've been working at resurrecting a '46 Moline R that spent way too many years in the fencerow.

Finished the ignition wiring last night. Set the gas tank in place, plumbed the fuel line, poured some gas in the tank, opened the valve and punched the starter button.

The ol beast fired right up and sounded fairly decent.

Still got a lot of work to do before it's finished, but it sure was nice to hear it run.

Its neat to hear of somebody else working on a 46 R. I recently purchased a running RTU for $350 and am currently in the process of restoring it.

Just today, I bought a Uni, 1952 model L. Put in new plugs, gasoline and battery, fired right up and the LA combine runs like I could cut oats tonite. Been in a barn all its life, looks average but runs like new.Congrats on your tractor!!!

I wouldn't know how to act if I got to work on something that had been barn-kept. This R was stuck worse than anything I've ever seen. Engine stuck, steering was stuck, rear end was stuck, EVERYTHING was stuck.

We had to lift it with a front-end loader to get it loaded on the trailer the day I picked it up from the PO. It took the better part of two days heating and beating the rear hubs to get them to slide on the axles so it would fit between the fenderwells on my trailer to drag it off.

I gave up on the engine. It's basically a solid hunk of rust. Wound up buying a running ZA with a busted rear end housing to use as an engine donor.

MM Nut Buster; Looks like you will be fighting major rust components for a couple months or more.
Next time could you put a 4" X 12" by 9 foot long oak spreader across the trailer and leave the rusty wheel hubs and axle sections (corrosion maximus) for a back on the farm recovery? Might have to travel to the far left of the roadway with a flasher or hazard light operating full time. I suppose with this version you would have to be best of friends with the local chiefs of law enforcement. Beats remote rust busting by a country mile.
