Clay,

Great to hear of another '44 ZTU out there. I've been "working" on one for a couple of years now. I'm still grumping around on the engine, but if all goes well this summer, I should have the major portion of it back together so that it looks like a tractor again. I'd like to be able to help you on the rear rims, but I need the ones I've got! You might try a fella here in Nebraska (that is if you're somewhat close to eastern Nebraska) by the name of Ernie Olsan. He's into MM salvage work and has helped me many, many times. He farms in the morning and runs Greenwood Implement in the afternoon. He can be reached most afternoons in the store in Greenwood at (402) 789-2500. I recently bought my ZTU engine from him (which turned out to be from a ZA, but that's another story) but the plate on the transmission was for a ZTU. As I recall, the rear rims were good, although the tires were shot. Regarding your paint numbers, I recently heard from another MM collector/restorer who found out the PPG paint number used for mixing the correct paint is PPG DAR60039. This number will give you the correct color, and then you can have a body shop or vehicle paint store correctly mix whatever type of paint you want to use. The trade name for the color is "MM Prairie Gold" and I have seen containers and spray cans of it advertised in the MM Corresponder Magazine. The story on the red for the wheels is that the manager at the MM paint shop got crossways with the plant management and quit, taking the formula with him. From what I hear, most restorers use something like International or Farmall red to come close to the original. Good luck on the project, and if you need it, I specialize in bad advice.
