What is the proper torque for the 2 nuts that attach the hub cap down to the hub. Don't want to crack the cap. Thank you

Hello mowr,
Sorry about the lack of a good desription. 1948 RTU. The 2 nuts on the u-bolt that hold the hub on the rear axle. Thanks for the help.

Don, Thanks for the update. I honestly don't have that info. If you don't have an RTU book that shows it, perhaps you can find a list that shows general torque specs based on bolt diameter, hardness, and type of thread (fine or coarse). Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck.

Neither the maintenance manual or the shop service manual for the R specify a torque for these hubs. They do both mention having the nuts facing up and the key slot down when adjusting them. After tightening and operating the tractor for a few minutes, retighten. I checked a manual for a U, and it has not surprisingly the same exact wording in respect to this subject.
