I have ordered an Oil filter from NAPA that is suppose to fit and I have ordered the service manual for this tractor but until it comes I was hoping someone could answer a question. Is the Oil filter in the Pan on the 283c-4 UB Special? I can't seem to locate an access plate or cup anwhere. If in the pan where can I get new pan gaskets do I need to make them out of gasket material and PCV? Thanks to anyone who helps as you can tell I am new at this, my first restoration project 1955 UB Special LPg.

There should be a round cover on the RHS (if I recall correctly) of the oil pan that is removed to replace the oil filter. You do not need to remove the oil pan.

You can find the filter number on the Wix Filter website under off-road vehicles.

Good Luck!

The 51111 fits the canister on the left side of older, gasoline U and UB (regular, not special).

The wix 51111 has stubs from the center of the filter one on each end where as the 51114 is flat on both ends.

Yes , I opend the box and those tabs were there, i tried to get a 51114 but WIX does not list such a number and Napa could only cross to a 51111, I cut the tabs off in the shop and bolted it up fine but I would like to get the right filter can you double check your number for me.

John, Yes my bad the number you need is WIX #51118. I am not sure though that it will come with a new cover gasket " flat o-ring" or not for the cover.I really just can't remember for sure. Sorry about the typo. I got an old logo MM filter some where in my collection of filters and I can possiablly get you the O.E.M.# from MM if you want.

Well John, That's is a good question. I don't know why either. I can only guess that they don't know there is some difference between a UB and a UB special, this the only thing I can think of at this time.
