I'm trying to pull a UTS splined wheel hub to replace a leaky axle seal. So far we've tried a puller, prying, pounding, heat, swearing but it hasn't budged. Does anyone have any tricks or ideas? Am I better off to pull the transmisson cover and pull the shaft out? Will the bearings stay in place If i do this? Is the nut on the bull gear accessable from the top? thanks

I got a used UTS hub with a cut off alxe in it.
20 ton press and a rosebud torch,...nothin. Took to a 100 ton press and rosebud torch at a machine shop..... nothin. They where very afraid to work with that thing. Had another ole boy drill thru half the diameter, and his press and torch .....nothin. Met a fellow in the bar that runs a metal services place,"My press can do anything". He tried to press it out, with a long lead on the controller , so he can stand outside the building....nothin. The he torched out 90% of the thickness of the axle in two spots, put in the press , stood outside the shed, and it came out very very hard. Left scrape marks in the Hub all the way. He told me to never bring him another SOB like that ever again. So my advice to you is , check to make sure you don't have water in the oil, and run it with less the full in the rear end AND LEAVE IT BE. My old hub was loose on the axle, and had too be replaced. By the way, the replacement hub went on loose the on old axle.

Thanks for the tips, I think I have a new solution: live with the leak. With the size of the puller and the amount of heat we threw at it, I think something should have happend. sure is frustrating.

some hydralic jacks are made to work lying down (most do if pump on bottom)I've made presses for use to pull things like this with a 30 ton or more jack. Maybe a small I-beam bolted across hub with spacers and jack in center. I built one I have used to press pins out of bulldozer tracks welded it all up and have used it to press other things too. BE CAREFUL good luck

Andy2, Years ago I had the very same problem, I did everything you did and more, I finally gave up and parked that tractor in my future project (junk to some) row. That tractor had come with 2 different rear hubs and I wanted them to match. I found a match and the had no luck in removing the stuck one. . Later I found that the hub I wanted to remove was original. Good luck!

Have you tried some heat yet? Try hitting the end of your axles as well.
