I have been thinking about my UTSD-M, (that is dangerous) and have a question or two for the M-M historians among us. It appears that the UTSD-M was manufactured at the same time as the 5 Star. Is that a correct notion? Was this Military designation an attempt by M-M to use up a bunch of left over UTS stuff by finding a market overseas? Does anyone have "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say? Another question, was this particular tractor painted the same as the regular UTS series or did M-M deviate for the UTSD-M? Alan

Well the tractors where kinda built the same time as 5 stars where. UTSD-M where built from 1954 to 1958 and 5 stars where built from 1957 through 1959 with a hand full over lapping into 1960.

Most likely if they were built concurrent with 5stars and in the same plant they got the same paint.

I'm thinking this is supposed to be a different shade from earlier Prairie Gold, if you want to be technical. And I don't know exactly when MM changed their paint shade.

Problem is there's no absolute shade of the early paint. MM got their paint from various suppliers. That's why some fade or weather orangeish brown and some turn a chalky yellow.

Good luck with your UTSD-M.
