As one who is new to tractor repairing, and have not been able to locate any repair manuals on my tractor, I have a 48 ZTU and need the following information:
A. Are there any other models of (any) tractor that the flywheel will interchange from?
( I have a MM donkey engine that has a good flywheel, but don't know if it will fit, as I havent cracked the case apart yet on the tractor. I do know that the bore and piston size is different).

B. Is there a "u" joint that will replace the steering "u" joint?

C. Will the cowel and /or sideplates from any other model fit a ZTU?

D. Will the gas tank from any other model fit the ZTU?

E. Is there a "kit" that can be put on a ZTU to make it into a 3 pt hitch setup? Thank you for any help. I wrote several months ago for this info, but my requests never made it to the pages. Frank

I have a flywheel off of a ZTU motor I would sell. I think the flywheels are all interchangable for all the years the ZTU was built. You should be able to find a U-joint that will fit just measure the shaft size. I think that the hood side panels and cowl are very similar on the ZTU and early RTU tractors. The tank is preety much a ZTU only thing. I don't know of ay other models that are close enough to work that would be any easier to get. I don't know of any "kits for 3 pt on a ZTU. There is a guy working on a "kit" for the later ZA model.

Hope this helps.

Frank, I have been working on a 1944 ZTU for three years now, and have faced some of the same problems you have. I stumbled into a great resource at King's Books, P.O. Box 86, Radnor, OH 43066-0086. They have a reprint of a MM Z maintenance book. It's called catalog #MM-6, and retails for $6.95 plus $1.50 handling. It shows lots of good schematics and specifications on attachments and electrical I haven't found anywhere else.

Also, most model years within the style are interchangeable. Thus, 1937 - 1947 ZTU's have interchangeable parts, and even between other "Z" models. Your 1948 may be interchangeable between the early 50's versions of Z models. The big differences were in the front wheel configuration and some of the add-ons like 3-pt. hitches, PTO, etc.
