Need info on correct trans fluid for 1953 MM UB - the stuff in it stinks to high heaven - kind of like burned limited slip diff fluid. Wondering if this is really correct - or contaminated or what - also what is correct level and how do you check? Tractor runs OK except no brakes but that was what I started out to fix - found left side brakes discolored balls and scored plate, but I got parts from Welters and about ready to go back together. plan to change oil seals and maybe replace fluid??

I run 80W-90 in mine. The first time I changed it, I flushed it out with some diesel fuel to get all the crap out. That seems to help. The level plug is on the right side in front of the brake pedals and down a little bit. Should be a square headed pipe plug. Them '53 Molines keep on a truckin!

I remember reading in a MM manual to use 140 in the summer, thin it with kerosene for winter, flush and change it in the spring... I wonder if anyone ever did that. Or if it was thinned if it was ever changed. My dad told me once that the gear oil years ago was black not green like it is now.
